Flaming Lips "Fight Test"

Sounds Like.... Cat Stevens' "Father and Son"
This is and should be old news to any fan of music by now.

Vampire Weekend

Sounds Like...Paul Simon.
I was driving to work this morning and the song "M79" by Vampire Weekend came on the radio. And I said to myself, "Awe sirus XMU, You're so cute, playing Paul Simon, trying to mix it up for my early morning commute." Then I look to my stereo for the song title. Because I was unfamiliar with this Paul Simon tune. And to my utter shock and amazement (insert sarcasm here) It was Vampire Weekend.

Phoenix

Sounds Like... 90's rock meets electronic. And I think that is the reason why I love them so much. Cause that's just awesome! At last night's show at the Greek Theater in LA, I heard moments of Radiohead, Bruce Springsteen, & maybe even a Mike McCready guitar riff for a second there. And you could difinitely hear their Daft Punk & Air influences. If a show that sounds like that doesn't spell epic to you...well then I just give up.

Metric

Sounds like... the Yeah Yeah Yeahs meets Kelly Clarkson.
Oooh, some people are going to kill me for that one. Listen I'm a long time Broken Social Scene fan so I'm allowed. Here's Metric pop rocking it out at the Greek Theater last night.

JJ's "Ecstasy"

Sounds Like... The Lonely Islands "I'm on a Boat"
So I know "Ecstasy" samples Lil' Wayne's "Lollipop"
And "I'm on a Boat" parodies rap songs in general.
So does that cancel this Sounds Like out?
You be the judge...

Band of Skulls

Sounds Like... The White Stripes with more people. Maybe The White Stripes with the Lead singer from The Kills. But not Dead Weather. No, definitely not Dead Weather. It sounds so much more definite when you say it twice. But to tell you the truth, maybe a little bit like Dead Weather.

Gregory Pepper and His Problems' "7ths and 3rds"

Sounds like... Ben Kweller meets Postal Service meets Calvin Harris.
With a straight up Eddie Murphy rip off at the end.
Where did this guy come from? I love him and I'm moving to Canada.
Click on the link and get 3 free downloads. This song is one of them.

Enjoy!

Bat For Lashes

Sounds like... Heather Nova meets Bjork with a sprinkling of Kate Bush.
But just a sprinkling.

Black Lips

Sounds like... the hazy dream like drug culture 60's rock of Velvet Underground and now Brian Jonestown Massacre meets new age surf town Punk.
I know that's a mouthful. But this band is a handful.
I was lucky enough to get to see them Live at the El Rey in LA back in May.
Who said LA crowds are lame? I haven't seen this much stage diving since 91. And I sure as hell haven't seen a mosh pit like that, in a small club, since at least 92. Anyway, It's a show to check out. Just stand back a little further than you normally would and if you're over seas, watch out for the urine and the vomit. That's not to much to ask... is it?
This right here is my Jam. Gives me the chills every time.

Grizzly Bear's "Two Weeks"

Sounds like... Okay yes the Piano sounds very very similar to Dr. Dre's "Still"
But this band is going in a totally different direction.
And honestly after watching the video...
I don't care about anything but crawling into my bed and pulling the covers over my head.
Damn right I'm scared. That shiz was creepy!
